Electric vehicles and solar-powered boats at Chobe

Four wildernesses, one unforgettable journey

This is Botswana’s definitive fly-in safari — eleven days connecting all four of the country’s headline wildernesses in a single, seamless journey. Begin on the Chobe River watching vast elephant herds from silent, solar-powered boats, then fly south into the predator-rich heart of Moremi Game Reserve. From there, glide deeper into the permanent Okavango Delta by mokoro before heading east to the ancient Makgadikgadi Pans, home to Africa's second-largest zebra migration along the Boteti River. Every camp has its own character — from Chobe’s eco-pioneering five-star lodge to the canvas intimacy of Camp Xakanaxa and the island serenity of Camp Okavango. All flights, meals, activities and park fees are included.

Day 1: Arrival in Chobe

Chobe Game Lodge exterior with garden and riverine trees

Arrive at Kasane Airport, where you’ll be met and transferred to Chobe Game Lodge — the only permanent lodge inside Chobe National Park, set directly on the banks of the Chobe River. Settle into your river-facing room and take in the views: elephants, hippos and buffalo frequently graze and drink within sight of the lodge. After lunch, head out on your first boat cruise along the Chobe River aboard one of the lodge’s solar-powered electric boats. The only sound is the lap of water against the hull — the electric motor is virtually silent, allowing remarkably close encounters with elephant herds wading chest-deep in the channel, Nile crocodiles basking on the sandbanks and a dazzling procession of waterbirds. Return to the lodge for dinner as the sky turns amber over the floodplain.

Day 2: Chobe — Land & Water Safaris

Rise before dawn for a game drive in one of Chobe’s whisper-quiet electric Land Rovers. As the sole concession inside the park, the lodge’s vehicles are out before the gates open to other operators — a golden window for undisturbed wildlife encounters. The Chobe riverfront is home to some of the largest elephant concentrations in Africa, alongside lion, buffalo, giraffe, sable antelope and spotted hyena. Return for a leisurely breakfast on the boardwalk, then spend the middle of the day at your own pace — the pool, the spa, or simply your private terrace overlooking the river. In the late afternoon, head out on a sunset river cruise aboard one of the lodge’s solar-powered boats, watching elephants and hippos silhouetted against the fading light.

Day 3: Chobe — Deeper Exploration

Afternoon tea on the Chobe Game Lodge deck overlooking the river

A third day at Chobe allows time to truly immerse yourself in this remarkable ecosystem. In the morning, choose between a river cruise — where Pel’s fishing owl, carmine bee-eaters and African skimmers may be spotted alongside the larger mammals — or a game drive through the park’s mosaic of floodplains, mixed woodland and open savannah. The lodge’s all-female guiding team, known as the Chobe Angels, bring exceptional knowledge and an infectious enthusiasm for their home park. During the middle of the day, unwind at the pool, visit the spa, or take a behind-the-scenes eco tour to see the lodge’s solar plant, biogas facility and glass-recycling operation. A sunset cruise rounds off your final evening in Chobe.

Day 4: Fly to Moremi Game Reserve

Camp Xakanaxa main deck and dining area beside the Moremi lagoon

The riverine forest of Chobe falls away beneath you as your light aircraft climbs south toward the Okavango Delta. Below, the landscape unfolds — winding channels, palm-fringed islands and open floodplains stretching to the horizon. After a final morning activity and brunch at Chobe Game Lodge, this flight marks the transition from river to delta. Land at the Xakanaxa airstrip and transfer to Camp Xakanaxa, a classic tented camp on the banks of the Khwai River in the heart of Moremi Game Reserve. The camp’s twelve Meru-style canvas tents sit on raised decks overlooking the lagoon — expect hippos grazing outside your tent and the glow of paraffin lamps at dinner. Settle in and then head out on an afternoon game drive through the reserve’s mosaic of mopane woodland and open grassland, home to lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and wild dog.

Day 5: Moremi — Predators and Plains

Camp Xakanaxa guest tent with canopy bed and writing desk

Your first full day in one of Africa’s premier wildlife areas. Moremi’s unique position where the Kalahari meets the Okavango creates an extraordinary mosaic of habitats — mopane woodland, open grassland, floodplain and lagoon edge, all within reach of a single game drive. Head out at dawn with your guide to track lion prides, cheetah, elephant herds and the elusive African wild dog. The reserve’s predator density is exceptional, and the experienced guides at Camp Xakanaxa know exactly where to look. Return for a leisurely brunch, then settle into camp for the afternoon — the plunge pool overlooks the lagoon, and the wildlife reference library is well stocked. In the late afternoon, venture out again as the golden light draws animals to the water.

Day 6: Moremi — Lagoon and Waterways

Today the perspective shifts from land to water. Head out by motorboat along the Khwai River and the sinuous channels feeding Xakanaxa Lagoon. From the water, the Delta reveals a different cast of characters — hippos surfacing between lily pads, Goliath herons stalking the shallows, malachite kingfishers darting from reed to reed. The birding here is superb, particularly during the summer months when migrant species are breeding. After brunch, the middle of the day is yours — sit on your private deck and watch the parade of animals at the water’s edge. In the afternoon, head out on a game drive to explore a different sector of the reserve before your final evening at Xakanaxa. Dinner is served by candlelight at the long communal table, lit by dozens of paraffin lamps.

Day 7: Fly to the Okavango Delta

From the air, you watch Moremi’s golden grasslands dissolve into a maze of silver water — the permanent Okavango Delta spreading out beneath you like a living map. After a final morning activity and brunch at Camp Xakanaxa, your light aircraft carries you deeper into this watery wilderness to Camp Okavango on remote Nxaragha Island. Camp Okavango is a pure water camp — there are no roads, no vehicles, and no engine noise. Twelve safari suites sit on raised teak platforms connected by wooden walkways, with an infinity pool perched right on the edge of the swamp. After settling in, head out on a late afternoon motorboat excursion through the maze of channels. The birding here is outstanding — Pel’s fishing owl, malachite and pied kingfishers, wattled cranes and African jacanas are regularly sighted. Return to camp for a fireside dinner under the Delta sky.

Day 8: Okavango Delta — Water Wilderness

Camp Okavango thatched lounge and bar area

A full day to absorb the timeless rhythms of the Okavango. Glide through narrow, reed-lined channels in a traditional mokoro — a dugout canoe poled silently by an expert guide. It is one of Africa’s most iconic safari experiences: eye-level with the water, close enough to hear the splash of a red lechwe or the call of a fish eagle overhead. Later, join a guided bush walk on one of the neighbouring islands, tracking larger wildlife on foot with experienced guides. The Delta’s birdlife is exceptional — look out for wattled cranes, African jacanas and the jewel-bright Angolan painted reed frog in the shallows. For guests staying two or more nights between April and October, the elevated sleep-out deck offers the chance to spend a night under the stars — a surcharge applies, but it is an unforgettable experience. As evening falls, the camp’s fire pit comes alive with stories and the sounds of frogs and nightjars.

Day 9: Fly to Makgadikgadi Pans

The contrast is stark and sudden: the lush waterways of the Delta give way to pale Kalahari sand, flat horizons and immense, empty skies. After a morning activity and brunch at Camp Okavango, your flight east delivers you to an entirely different Botswana — Leroo La Tau, a striking lodge perched on ten-metre cliffs above the Boteti River, overlooking the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The name Leroo La Tau means “lion’s paw” in Setswana, and the area lives up to it — lion, leopard, cheetah, brown and spotted hyena all patrol the riverbanks. Check in to your glass-fronted suite, where 270-degree views over the Boteti mean wildlife watching begins from your private deck. In the late afternoon, head into the national park for a game drive along the river, where elephants, giraffe, kudu and large herds of zebra gather at the water.

Day 10: Makgadikgadi — Migration & Salt Pans

Leroo La Tau bedroom with canopy bed and sunrise river view

A full day in this starkly beautiful corner of Botswana. During the dry months, up to 30,000 zebra gather along the Boteti River in what is Africa’s second-largest mammal migration — a spectacle visible right from the lodge. Morning and afternoon game drives follow the river through the national park, where predator interactions are frequent: black-maned lion, cheetah and hyena shadow the herds. The lodge’s sunken game-viewing hide, built into the riverbank at water level, puts you eye-to-eye with drinking zebra and wading elephants — close enough to hear them breathe. For guests staying two nights, there is the option of a complimentary day trip to Nxai Pan and the ancient Baines’ Baobabs, or — between mid-June and October — a sleep-out under the stars on the vast, silent expanse of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. A cultural visit to nearby Khumaga Village can also be arranged. This evening, gather around the lodge’s bonfire overlooking the river for your final bush dinner.

Day 11: Departure via Maun

Guests boarding a Cessna Caravan on a Botswana bush airstrip

Enjoy a final sunrise over the Boteti River — Leroo La Tau faces east, making it one of the finest sunrise spots in Botswana. After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Maun Airport, where your onward journey continues. This itinerary pairs seamlessly with a stay in Victoria Falls before the safari begins: the town is a short hop from Kasane, making it an easy add-on for travellers wanting to see one of the natural wonders of the world before heading into the bush.

Light aircraft flights & expert guides

A fly-in safari means you travel between camps by light aircraft — small, low-flying planes that turn every transfer into a scenic experience rather than a long road drive. This itinerary includes four flights connecting Chobe, Moremi, the Okavango Delta and the Makgadikgadi Pans, covering distances that would take a full day by road in under an hour by air. At each camp, resident professional guides lead all game-viewing activities in open 4×4 vehicles, motorboats or mokoro, depending on the location. Flights operate on a seat-in-plane basis; luggage is limited to 20 kg in a soft-sided bag.

Botswana at its finest

May – September

  • Dry season concentrates game at water — Chobe’s elephants are at their most spectacular
  • Okavango flood pulse peaks, creating prime mokoro and boating conditions
  • Zebra migration gathers along the Boteti River at Leroo La Tau
  • Clear skies, mild days and cool evenings — ideal for all-day safari activity

Hot and rewarding

October

  • Game viewing remains outstanding as the last water sources draw big concentrations
  • Temperatures climb but mornings and evenings are comfortable for drives and cruises
  • Dramatic skies and building thunderheads create spectacular photography light
  • The Makgadikgadi sleep-out is still available — warm evenings under endless stars

Transition and festive

April, November – December

  • April marks the end of the rains and the start of the flood — the bush is gloriously green
  • November’s first rains bring migrant birds and newborn animals across all four destinations
  • December is a popular festive travel period — shoulder-season rates apply
  • Fewer vehicles in the parks and a sense of having the wilderness to yourself

Secret season

January – March

  • Green season rates offer significant savings on this itinerary — extraordinary value
  • Lush landscapes and exceptional birdwatching, including summer migrants
  • Some camps on this itinerary are closed from mid-January to early March — speak to us about alternative dates
  • Early January and late March are bookable — the Delta at its most verdant and peaceful
The Okavango paradox: the Delta’s annual flood arrives from Angola’s summer rains during Botswana’s dry winter — meaning the best time for mokoro safaris is June to August, when the rest of the country is at its driest.
