Electric vehicles and solar-powered boats at Chobe

Where the bush meets the water

Eight nights, three camps, zero compromise. Start beneath the ancient ebony canopy of Camp Moremi, tracking lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah through one of Africa’s most rewarding game reserves. Then fly west to Xugana Island Lodge — recently rebuilt and perched on the edge of the Delta’s most spectacular permanent lagoon — for mokoro excursions, guided island walks and world-class birding. The final stop is Chobe Game Lodge on the banks of the Chobe River, where vast elephant herds gather at the water’s edge and silent, solar-powered boats bring you close enough to hear them breathe. Each camp brings a different tempo and a different landscape; together, they deliver the full breadth of northern Botswana. All flights, meals, drinks, activities and park fees are included.

Day 1: Arrive in Moremi Game Reserve

Camp Moremi thatched suite with canopy bed and open deck

Arrive at Maun Airport and board a light aircraft for a low-altitude flight over the Okavango Delta — from the air, the waterways fan out below like veins on a leaf, a first glimpse of the wilderness, palm-fringed islands and open floodplains that define this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Land at the Xakanaxa airstrip and transfer to Camp Moremi, a classic tented safari lodge set beneath ancient ebony and jackalberry trees on the banks of the Xakanaxa Lagoon. Settle into your thatched suite, explore the elevated lounge and wildlife library, and take a dip in the secluded pool before heading out on your first afternoon game drive through the reserve’s mosaic of mopane woodland, open savannah and riverine forest. Return to Camp Moremi for dinner in the boma beneath a canopy of stars.

Day 2: Moremi — Predators and Plains

Camp Moremi pool deck overlooking the Moremi floodplain

A full day to explore one of Botswana’s most rewarding game-viewing areas. Set out early for a morning game drive through Moremi’s diverse terrain — expect regular sightings of lion prides, leopard, elephant herds, giraffe and large numbers of antelope including impala, kudu and waterbuck. Wild dog are frequently spotted in this area, and cheetah sightings are not uncommon on the open plains. Return to camp for a late brunch, then spend the afternoon on a motorboat excursion along the Xakanaxa Lagoon and its surrounding channels. Glide past water lilies and papyrus beds, watching for hippo, Nile crocodile, and an array of waterbirds — the imposing fish eagle, vivid malachite kingfisher, and, if you’re fortunate, the rare Pel’s fishing owl.

Day 3: Moremi — Lagoon and Waterways

A third day at Camp Moremi brings the luxury of depth. With six safari activities in total for you to enjoy, your guide can venture further afield — to quieter corners of the reserve where sightings feel entirely your own. Spend the morning on a boat excursion along the Moanachira River, where the channels narrow and the birdlife intensifies: herons, storks and kingfishers compete for attention while hippo surface and sink in the shallows. After brunch, the middle of the day is yours — the pool, the viewing platform overlooking the lagoon, or a quiet hour with the camp’s wildlife reference library. Another afternoon game drive rounds off this day in Moremi, with sundowners in the bush before returning to camp for dinner.

Day 4: Fly to the Okavango Delta

Mokoro excursion through calm Okavango Delta channels

Rise early for a final game drive in Moremi — the early morning light often delivers the most dramatic wildlife encounters, with predators still active and the bush shrouded in golden haze. After brunch at camp, transfer to the airstrip for a short light aircraft flight westward into the permanent Okavango Delta. The aerial views of winding channels, palm-studded islands and glinting waterways are spectacular. Land and transfer by boat to Xugana Island Lodge, set on a private island overlooking the famed Xugana Lagoon — widely regarded as the most beautiful permanent water site in the entire Delta. One of the Delta’s original lodges, Xugana was completely rebuilt in 2025 with a fresh, contemporary design that lets the lagoon take centre stage. Settle in, explore the overwater fire-deck, and take a late afternoon motorboat excursion to begin discovering this water paradise.

Day 5: Okavango Delta — Mokoro and Island Walks

Xugana Island Lodge tented room with lagoon and papyrus view

A day to immerse yourself in the rhythm of the Delta. In the morning, glide through narrow, crystal-clear channels in a traditional mokoro — a dugout canoe steered by an expert poler. The pace is unhurried, the silence broken only by the call of reed frogs, the splash of a hippo and the chatter of colourful songbirds. Keep an eye out for the rare red lechwe antelope bounding through the shallows. After lunch at the lodge, join your guide for a walking safari on one of the surrounding islands. On foot, every detail sharpens: elephant tracks in the soil, the rustle of a monitor lizard, the towering shapes of giraffe among the palms. Birders will find Xugana particularly rewarding — the summer months bring spectacular migrant species, but year-round residents including African jacana, pygmy goose and Pel’s fishing owl ensure excellent sightings in any season. Return to the lodge for sundowners on the overwater deck as the lagoon turns amber in the evening light.

Day 6: Okavango Delta — Water Safari and Island Walks

Another full day on Xugana’s private concession, with activities tailored to your interests. Speed things up with a motorboat excursion to more distant lagoons and channels, where elephant, hippo, crocodile and large herds of buffalo are regularly encountered. Or return to the mokoro for a more contemplative morning, perhaps with binoculars in hand to tick off some of the Delta’s 400-plus bird species. In the afternoon, another island walk offers the chance to encounter wildlife at ground level — from elephant and zebra to wild dog and the occasional leopard draped in the branches of a sausage tree. As the sun drops, gather around the fire-deck for stories, star-gazing and the soundtrack of the Delta after dark.

Day 7: Fly to Chobe National Park

Chobe Game Lodge room exterior with garden terrace

The landscape below transforms as your light aircraft climbs out of the Delta’s green labyrinth and tracks north-east toward the Chobe River — papyrus and palm islands giving way to dry woodland, then the broad, sun-baked floodplain. You’ll be met at Kasane Airport and transferred to Chobe Game Lodge — the only permanent lodge inside Chobe National Park and Botswana’s original five-star safari property, established in 1972. Settle into your river-facing room with its complimentary minibar and private terrace, then head out on a late afternoon river cruise aboard one of the lodge’s solar-powered electric safari boats. The silent approach allows remarkably close encounters with vast elephant herds, hippo pods, Nile crocodile and a kaleidoscope of waterbirds. Return to the lodge for dinner on the riverfront boardwalk as the sun sets over the floodplain.

Day 8: Chobe — Land and Water Safaris

Sundowner stop with Chobe Angel guide by the Chobe River

A full day to explore Chobe from every angle. The pre-dawn air carries the cold, mineral scent of the river as you climb into one of the lodge’s whisper-quiet electric Land Rovers, led by the Chobe Angels — Africa’s first all-female guiding team. As the sole concession inside the park, the lodge’s vehicles are out before the gates open to other operators, giving you a golden hour of undisturbed wildlife encounters. The Chobe riverfront supports some of the largest elephant concentrations in Africa, alongside lion, buffalo, giraffe, sable antelope and spotted hyena. Return for a leisurely breakfast on the boardwalk, then spend the middle of the day at your own pace — the pool, the Kalahari-inspired spa, or a behind-the-scenes eco tour to see the solar plant, biogas facility and glass-recycling operation. A sunset cruise rounds off your Chobe experience in style.

Day 9: Departure from Kasane

Guests boarding a Safari Air Cessna on a Botswana bush airstrip

Depending on your flight schedule, there may be time for a final early morning activity before brunch and check-out. Transfer from Chobe Game Lodge to Kasane Airport for your onward flight. For those extending their journey, a Victoria Falls add-on pairs naturally with this itinerary — one of the seven natural wonders of the world is just a short road transfer across the Kazungula border.

Scenic flights & expert guides

A fly-in safari means light aircraft replace long road transfers — connecting remote camps that would otherwise take a full day to reach by vehicle. The flights are low-altitude and scenic, offering a bird’s-eye perspective on the Delta’s channels, islands and wildlife below. All flights on this itinerary are included, operated on scheduled light aircraft by Safari Air. At each camp, experienced resident guides lead all game drives, boat excursions, mokoro trips and walking safaris. Luggage is limited to 20 kg in a soft-sided bag.

Why book this itinerary?

The sweet spot between depth and breadth. At eight nights across three camps, this itinerary gives you enough time to truly know each location — rather than racing between stops — while still covering the full spectrum of northern Botswana. The game-drive intensity of Moremi, the contemplative beauty of the Okavango and the riverfront spectacle of Chobe each deserve (and receive) proper time. Couples, groups of friends and families with children aged six and older will all find their rhythm here. Ending in Kasane also opens the door to a Victoria Falls extension.

Ending in Kasane puts Victoria Falls within easy reach — ask us about extending your journey.

Flood season magic

May – September

  • Okavango flood pulse arrives from Angola — mokoro excursions at their finest
  • Game concentrates at water sources across Moremi, making predator sightings frequent
  • Chobe’s elephants gather in vast herds along the river — best seen by electric boat
  • Cool, dry weather with clear skies and virtually no rain — ideal safari conditions

Last of the dry

October

  • Game viewing reaches its most intense as the last water sources draw huge concentrations
  • Hot afternoons build towards dramatic thunderstorms — spectacular photography conditions
  • Xugana’s lagoon still holds water well, keeping mokoro excursions accessible
  • Slightly lower demand than mid-winter peak — strong value for exceptional wildlife

Green edges

April, November – December

  • April’s last rains leave landscapes lush and green — transition to the dry season ahead
  • November brings migrant birds back to the Delta — outstanding for birding enthusiasts
  • Shoulder-season rates offer genuine savings on this itinerary
  • Afternoon showers are brief and dramatic — mornings and evenings are superb for game drives

Secret season

January – March

  • Lowest rates of the year — extraordinary value for a fly-in safari of this calibre
  • Lush green landscapes, dramatic afternoon skies, and newborn wildlife throughout
  • Camp Moremi and Xugana are closed in early February — speak to us about adjusted dates
  • Chobe Game Lodge stays open year-round, with quieter game drives and fewer boats on the river
Dry season, wet Delta: while Botswana’s winter skies stay cloudless from May to October, the Okavango fills with floodwater that fell in Angola months earlier. The result is a happy coincidence — peak game viewing and peak water levels arrive together.
