Camp Okuti

Lodge style Faultless flow

In wildlife oasis

Okuti lies along the Maunachira River, which flows through the Moremi Game Reserve’s Xakanaxa Lagoon, in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Okuti provides excellent game viewing on both land and water, due to its widely varied and protected habitats. Although night drives and off roading are not permitted in this part of the Delta, rest assured by the fact that Xakanaxa is a stunningly beautiful part of the Moremi Game Reserve. This is the home to Botswana’s densest wildlife populations, and encounters with wild cats like leopards, cheetahs and lions are common. As you wake up with the early call of hippos and a bright orange sunrise, the staff already prepared a yummy picnic basket for your first game activity. When the sun starts climbing, it is time to hop in your vehicle and discover the Moremi Game Reserve. With so much richness in the area, the guides of Okuti Camp cannot wait to show you around. With reference books on hand, and knowledgeable guide and team of trackers out front, you are all set for the safari experience of a lifetime.

There are five, comfy, twin bedded units and two family units. Boast amazing views over the lagoon and floodplains, these unique structures are made of reeds, covered by an outer layer of canvas and set on raised platforms. All units are en-suite with a luxurious inside and outside shower (providing absolute privacy, but openness to the sky and birds) and flush toilet. For an ultimate romantic honeymoon, the honeymoon unit features a double bed, indoor shower and outdoor bath tub for stargaze-bathing (with an occasional sip of champagne). Okuti Camp is a haven of comfort in the middle of the wilderness; with a plunge pool for refreshment during hot afternoons, a cosy dining area and open boma for traditional performances under star-studded skies, there is nothing left to wish for.

Activities at Camp Okuti

The largest possible buffalo herd, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, amazing birdlife: there is so much to discover in the Moremi game reserve. Wildlife living on floodplains, clung to reeds, high up in trees, predators on the savannah, it is all here and in incredible abundance. The guides at Okuti will make sure you have faultless and unforgettable safari activities. You will kick-start your day with an early rise and a game drive easily lasting three to four hours. When you return to camp, a delicious brunch is served. But the game viewing doesn’t stop here; as you wake up from a power nap you will see wildlife all around. Hippos in the lagoon, a stork on the edge of the pool – keep your eyes open and your reference book at hand. Afternoons feature more game drives and sundowners in the bush. But what is a Delta safari without exploring the waterways? No worries, the guides also love to test the waters so boat excursions are offered. And did we emphasize enough that this is a birder’s paradise? If you are seeking heron and storks during breeding season, get your binoculars ready and venture out to Gadikwe Heronry. After a day full of memorable sights, you will only have to return to your comfortable oasis to kick back and enjoy an excellent meal (and perhaps one more sundowner). Tomorrow will be another glorious day in Africa.
